Skintoskin Adult Socks
These socks provide maximum comfort and protection and help keep feet healthy.
Skintoskin is a new generation of underwear designed specifically for babies, children and adults with atopic skin conditions such as eczema. Developed by a leading dermatologist (Dr A. Sousa Basto) alongside a team of scientists from the University of Minho Portugal, this exciting new range of eczema clothing is the product of a new scientific field called bio-functional textiles.
Skintoskin is made from 70% pure cotton and 20% brown algae (seaweed) which has been bonded with silver particles giving the remaining 10%. The seaweed extract has natural properties that soothes and protects against itchiness, whilst the silver adds truly effective antiseptic properties, drastically reducing the growth of any potentially harmful bacteria on the skin. 70% cotton, 20% seaweed extract, 10% seaweed extract with silver.
Q. The garment says to wash at 40 C but my child has a dust mite allergy and everything needs to be washed at 60 C. Will this reduce the effectiveness of the silver and seaweed?
A. It is fine to wash the garments at 60 C. The material is highly durable. Independent tests have shown that the silvers effectiveness is only slightly affected when temperatures exceed 75 C. However do not use solvents or stain removers as these can leave a residue in the fabric that can be irritating to eczematous skin.
Q. Will the seaweed and silver lose their effectiveness after repeated washing?
A. No. Because of the way the seaweed and silver are bonded into the fabric, they do not lose their therapeutic action, even after 100 washes at 60 C.
Q. Should I keep up my/my child’s normal skincare routine when using skintoskin clothing?
A. Yes, it is fine to carry on applying your normal creams. Your creams will not interfere with skintoskin and vice versa. Look on skintoskin as an irritation-reducing barrier to keep Staphylococcus Aureus at bay and an added weapon in your arsenal against eczema. In clinical trials skintoskin reduced high levels of inflammation in 8 days without the use of other products.
Q. Is it possible to be allergic to skintoskin fabrics?
A. Clinical trials have shown that human skin is very tolerable to silver. However if there is a known allergy to silver in your family we suggest consulting with your GP before using skintoskin.
Q. Does skintoskin contain Nickel?
A. No the research and development of skintoskin looked not only at the scientific methods but also the attention to manufacturing details important to skin condition sufferers. Seams are flat and smooth and labels are on the outside.
